Leaves in a dream

Winds of sand caught in my eyes

I signed up for weather alerts

Waited for Kansas skies to crack

Fall into pigs

Reveal my mask

But I’d rather wash my face away with salt water

Struggle out to the riptide

Beg Poseidon to hold me down

But we float

My lungs brought me to the surface

Again

I saw your face looking towards the darkness

Waiting to see something

Alone

But we were together alone

And I thought of it then

The loneliness of being with someone

How I want to slip out of their minds

As they continue living

I won’t exist in any time

You may feel an ache

But you won’t know what you’re missing

You’ll mistake it for hunger pains
