TONGUE TRIPPING

It was something I had to say
But I had to say so many things
And out of a hundred
I would only say one
Always, it was never that important
After watching your face
I felt it spark
Right there
Stirring
Trying to find a way through those rows of bone and marrow
The words were alive
And I stopped paying attention to what you said
And just looked at you
Followed your eyes with mine
The words
Anxiously wanted to leave my tongue
And I stepped forward
Knowing I had to
I didn't want the regret
I grabbed your hand
Because those were the first words
And I couldn't say them fast enough
And they may have come out all wrong
But I think you needed them
